As the saying goes, “Be stubborn about your goals, and flexible about your methods.”

So what does that even mean?

It means that, to be successful in business, you should:

  1. Define your goal – More sales? More leads? Expansion?
  2. Work to achieve your goal.
  3. Change your methods along the way if they’re not working. Don’t keep doing the same thing if it’s not fruitful.

The ability to change when life decides that the path you are on is not the one you need to be on anymore can accelerate your path to success. As you choose to be flexible in those hard situations – the ones you weren’t expecting – you’ll actually begin to build your resilience.

And, according to Harvard Business Review, resilience is one of the most important factors in determining success. More than education, experience, and training.

Some argue that resilience is something that you realize after the fact; that it’s not something you can boldly state you’ve developed after one challenging day or event. It’s built up over time, over all those changes and over all the times you choose to be flexible.

Whether you’ve been running your business for decades or just started yesterday, you know that life is strange and you can’t predict it. You may think you are living the right life for you, and on the right road, then wham in a second it all changes.

The question is:

Do you fall apart?


Do you choose to be flexible, in the spirt of building your resilience and focusing on your goal?

Your life is what you make of it. You can either be miserable and focus on what you have lost, or choose change, stand up and look that goal straight in the eye and try again. It’s not the end of the book – just a new chapter.
